There Is Liberty Counseling is a private, online counseling practice that offers individual and couples therapy in Pennsylvania to help clients work through a range of mental health challenges.
My name is Chris Weidler, and I am the counselor you will work with.
I offer a range of evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, Socratic questioning, positive habit and behavior change, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).
For couples and per-marital counseling, I am strongly influenced by the Gottman Method interventions as developed by John and Julie Gottman.
I've enjoyed success helping people overcome the following challenges. The list is not exhaustive, so I always encourage a 15-minute consult prior to our first session. Everyone is unique, so I cannot guarantee success, but many of my clients have experienced improvement overcoming these challenges:
Yes. I am not the right match for certain people and certain challenges. I want you to get the help you need, and fortunately there are counselors who have different specialties. Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of people and problems that I might not be the best match for:
For self-pay clients - As long as you want! I organize my calendar in 15-minute increments, and I bill you based on how many 15-minute blocks you sign up for. If I do not have some else scheduled after you, and you want to add another 15-minute block to your session, we can do that!
For insurance-based clients we will have to factor in other requirements. I do take Aetna, Cigna and Carelon insurances and some HSAs, I can also provide a superbill for self-pay clients to send to their insurance company.
Most clients prefer either 45 or 60 minute sessions.
Yes. At this time, I am in-network for Aetna, Cigna and Carelon and some HSAs. For self-pay and out-of-network clients, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company, with the hope that you may get some reimbursement.
Self-pay clients have more options. Click HERE for more details. There are discounts available for monthly subscriptions and/or audio-only sessions. I do not offer a sliding scale based on income, however I do offer many options for saving money based on service format, length of session and subscriptions.
I do not offer a sliding scale based on income. Instead, I offer many options for saving money based on service format, length of session and subscriptions. Audio-only sessions are discounted compared to video sessions. Monthly subscription plans are heavily discounted and come with a few extra bonuses such as email messaging in between sessions. Yes! In fact, that is all I offer. I no longer see clients in person. If you choose an audio only/phone session, I offer a slight discount for self-pay clients.
Yes! I encourage you to sign up for a free 15-minute consult call to make sure we are a good fit for each other. If I do not believe I can help you very well, I will say so and advise you on how to find a better fit.
Check out my consult calendar here. If none of the times work for you don't despair. Simply send me an email with a several times that would work for you and I bet one of them will work for me too! chris@thereislibertycounseling.com
No! Some of my favorite clients have been atheists and socialists (some both!) Also, I do not push my religious or political beliefs on anyone I work with. I mention my beliefs because many clients prefer to work with a counselor who shares their most important worldviews.
Many clients self-censor with their therapist for fear of judgement and mistrust. This can reduce the effectiveness of counseling and result in a bad experience. No need to self-censor here, regardless of your religious or political beliefs.
Because I am only licensed in Pennsylvania. There is a weird law that requires the client to be physically located in the state the therapist is licensed in. No doubt it is "for your protection" and has absolutely nothing to do with protecting therapists in different states from competition. (I disapprove of this law, FYI)
Yes. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in PA. This means I have a Master's degree in Counseling from an accredited grad school and 3000 hours working under an accredited clinical supervisor and that I take annual accredited CEU trainings.
So you see, I am very, very, very accredited!
In other words, myself and everyone I learned from had to jump through a bunch of hoops, pay lots of bribes (fees) and fill out countless forms in order to give you the option of working with me. I do not believe my license is what makes me qualifies to help you and I consider professional licensing laws to be protectionist rackets.
I prefer to earn your trust by providing quality services and helping you get results.
Chocolate chip cookie dough. Of course. And if you disagree that might be the root cause of your problems. Don't worry, it is probably your mom's fault. I can help you overcome this!
No. I am sorry! I have had no success helping people overcome this deep-rooted issue, despite numerous attempts. I might even be ok with some common sense government regulation in this case.
